Clinical research lab services and home sample collection kits

IHDLab supports research studies with standardized home sample collection kits and lab testing in one CLIA-certified lab in Irvine, California. We build the kits, ship them to participants anywhere in the US with return shipping, test the samples in-house and deliver results by API, EMR or a secure portal.

Remote and hybrid studies only work if every participant gets the same kit and every sample is handled the same way. We bring kit building, shipping, testing and results together under one partner, so your team can focus on the study.

Why home sample collection is hard to run

Asking participants to visit a site for every sample limits who can join and who stays enrolled. Moving collection into the home helps, but it adds logistics: kits have to be built to the protocol, shipped on time, returned in good condition and tested consistently. When kits, couriers and labs are separate vendors, every hand-off adds risk to your data.

Common pain points

  • Variability: different kits or labs across participants

  • Logistics: kit inventory, outbound shipping and returns spread across vendors

  • Visibility: no single view of which participant has which kit, and where each sample is

  • Data delivery: results that arrive in formats your team has to re-key

How it works for research studies

  1. White labeling: Kits can carry your study or sponsor branding, with branded participant instructions and requisitions.

  2. Lab testing: Every sample from every participant is tested in-house in our CLIA-certified lab in Irvine, California, so results come from one lab.

  3. 3PL: We build, store and ship standardized kits to participants anywhere in the US, with return shipping included. Kits can also ship in bulk to study sites.

  4. API: Kit orders and status flow through the LabFlow API or our partner portal, and your team can track every kit.

  5. Resulting: Results return by API, to an EMR, or to a secure results portal. Opt-in aggregated data, analysis and trend reports are also available.

Need kits only? See custom white-label test kits and 3PL for kit design, assembly, storage and shipping.

What we'll ask about your study

Scoping a home-collection study starts with a short conversation. Have these ready and we can map the kit, logistics and results flow quickly:

  • Tests and sample types your protocol calls for

  • Number of participants and how many collection time points each one has

  • Where participants live, and whether some samples are collected at sites

  • Branding and labeling: sponsor-branded, study-branded or neutral kits

  • Results routing: who should receive results, and how

  • Timeline: when the first kits need to reach participants
